Course Experiences

EDPE 3100

Physical education was always my favorite class throughout school. I found throughout elementary, middle school, high school and the teaching program that I was far less stressed when there was a period that I could be active in a day. This reminded me of how important it is for my future students to have movement as much as possible during the time they are at school. This class also had activities that were not your typical fitness testing, they were inclusive to all students and fitness levels. An example of this was a peer created a lesson plan for an Amazing race activity. There were mind puzzles, obstacle courses and team building activities that created a fun experience for everyone to participate. In my future class I believe that bringing my passion for P.E. to the class but in fun inclusive ways for all is something that I look forward to the most in teaching.

EDELL 3100

Reading is another personal passion of mine, however what surprised me was the difficulty that comes with how to properly teach it to students. During the EDELL 3100 course we had the opportunity to create a tool box. Inside of the toolbox were strategies that you learned about that would help teach students how to read. I focused my toolbox on primary grades because that is where I want to teach for most of my career. The best part about this project however was after completing the toolboxes, we did a class wide gallery walk, where we got to keep resources from all of our peers. Just because I focused on primary, doesn’t mean that they are the only resources that I will ever need. This collaboration and learning from each other was my favorite part of this course by far.

This is a photo of my personal toolbox display. Featured are my Indigenous inspired “beaded plot profile” lesson resource, my handmade sensory story that I crocheted to pair with the book “The Mitten” by Jan Brett and a toolbox full of 28 other resources.

EDMA 3100/3200

Math was the course that I was extremely nervous for entering this program. All throughout school, I never felt confident with my number abilities and this hindered my motivation to try in the course. However, it didn’t take long in this program before I began to love this course. The content in the course and the way that it was taught made learning how to teach math fun! There are so many creative and exciting ways to teach math and create safe spaces for students to learn. I never felt discouraged in this class or that I wasn’t good enough to be apart of it, which is what I have felt in math classes prior. I felt extra proud that my own personal fear of math class had been conquered over this year, and even more proud that I am now eager to teach math throughout my future career.

This is one of the assignments that we did in the class called a “Math Mandala”. The mandala represents my own personal math journey. The colors in the center are bright and exciting with concepts such as addition and subtraction on the leaves. As the mandala spreads the colors grow dim as did my interest in math after elementary school. At the tip of this mandala is leaves, which represent my math journey in the education program. They are meant to show growing from the past math experiences and continuing to branch into different areas of my own life.
