As a teacher candidate, I view the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action as a responsibility and a guide toward creating an inclusive, respectful, and culturally responsive classroom. Reconciliation begins with truth—understanding the legacy of residential schools and the ongoing impacts of colonialism. I am committed to centering Indigenous voices, perspectives, and ways of knowing in my teaching. This involves continuous learning, listening, and reflecting, not just in curriculum, but in relationships. Education holds the power to heal and transform, and I believe it is our duty as educators to foster spaces where truth, understanding, and respect lead the way.
